passion
The eye - one of our five senses - plays a major role in helping us navigate the world. This simple fact alone is reason enough for me to deeply explore how our perception is influenced by light.
Over the course of evolution, various mechanisms have developed and become ingrained in our subconscious. In moments of danger, we instinctively widen our eyes to allow as much light as possible to reach our retinas. The warm glow of a fire feels comforting. The midday sun energizes our body, while dusk makes us sleepy. These effects go far beyond merely perceiving our surroundings: depending on its composition, light can significantly impact our biological rhythm, temporarily enhance performance, or, if misused, have long-term negative effects on our health. Light subconsciously manipulates our perception, affects our body, and directs our attention.
